Pine Thermopsis

Natural History

The Pine Thermopsis is a member of the Pea Family. The plant grows to 3 feet in height and has  bright green, elliptical leaves to 4 inches in length which grow in groups of three. It typically grows in meadows and clearings in pine forests at elevations between 6000 and 9500 feet. 
 

The Pine Thermopsis is also known as the Golden Pea.

The Pine Thermopsis blooms between April and July and produces bright yellow, pea-like flowers to 1 inch in length which grow in erect clusters at the end of the stem. Flowers are followed by a long, slender pod to 3 inches in length.
